I graduated in 1962. Here are some of the things I value because of my experiences at Antioch and on co-op jobs.
Broadening my horizons physically, with the Antioch Abroad program, I spent six months in Mexico during my second year. This gave me some experience of a different culture. I learned to speak Spanish. I spent a co-op there in a village with no electricity, volunteering with the Friends (Quakers) Service. Later, when my family was living in Colombia, I visited the amazing Galapagos Islands, which I had heard about at Antioch. In Cleveland, on co-op, I learned about public housing (and about bosses "hitting on" me).
I was an English literature major. We had to take at least one course in the physical and social sciences. I learned about universal connectedness (between a butterfly's wings and a star) long before that became a part of public awareness. I discovered that I like biology, except for the chemistry part.
I experienced living independently for the first time, with some support from the college. I met my husband and father of my children there. We shared social justice values.
I'm glad and proud that I went to Antioch.
That's all for now!
