I have been an Antiochian for almost 20 years, first as a student in 2007 and then as an alum and faculty member in 2013. I have seen a lot of change over these years. What has been a welcome change is President Varlotta's leadership. She has been transparent in her decision-making and openly engaged with faculty and staff. This embodies the goals and values of Antioch, which as an institution has worked to upend traditional models of education to make it accessible for a common good.
I do value President Varlotta's focus on sustainability for our organization. That there must be creative and manageable pathways to ensure Antioch is able to continue on its mission. To me, whether I agree with every decision or not, finding sustainable pathways must be in the mindset to move forward, especially given the headwinds that are already blowing against higher education. I support President Varlotta, Antioch's independence, and the focus on cooperation rather than competition.
